Liam Salmon

Hello! Thank you for visiting.

I am a Queer writer based in Amiskwakahegan, colonially known as Edmonton, Alberta. Most of my work has been written for the stage with a practice that began through The Citadel Theatre Young Playwriting CompanyThere, I wrote several short plays, including All That's Left, which later premiered as part of the University of Alberta's New Works Festival in 2014 and is now performed by high schools across Canada and the United States.

My play Silence and the Machine later premiered as part of the New Works Festival, was rewritten for Nextfest, and won Theatre Basement's Dweller's Horror Playwriting Competition. It was also produced in their 2016 Season. After working as a playwright in residence at Workshop West Playwrights' Theatre during the pandemic, my play Subscribe or Like was featured as part of their 2023 Season.

As part of the Citadel Theatre's Playwright's Forum, I was commissioned to write a short play titled Angry Crayon Flowers for festival one audience member to one performer festival, ENCOUNTERSMy short plays Iphigenia, Clytemnestra, and Electra have won top awards at the National Newmarket Ontario Festival of 10 Minute plays, and some of my short plays like jackrabbit and All The Way to Pluto have been performed in several short play Festivals across Canada.

I was a founding member of In Arms Queer Theatre Collective and co-producer of the Alberta Queer Calendar Project. I'm also a founding member of Low Hanging Fruit Productions with director and co-founder Owen Douglas-Holloway, where we continue to produce plays for the Edmonton Fringe. Our first show, LOCAL DIVA, was performed at Evolution Wonderlounge. Our second show FAGS IN SPACE played to rave reviews and sold out houses in 2022, taking home the Sterling Award for outstanding Fringe New Play. Our third show was a reimagining of our first, titled LOCAL DIVA: The Danielle Smith Diaries and was a runaway hit at the 2024 Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival, taking home the Volunteer Pick of Fringe.
